Wednesday, October 9, Pro Vita

Another one bites the dust.  Seven of the twelve of us have been hit by the intestinal thing.   We continue to hang tough, but I'm getting worried. I've stopped drinking the spring water unless it's boiled.  The good news is it only lasts two or three days for most and we leave here Friday morning.  We got reinforcements last night.  Two more twenty-somethings doing Europe on the cheap.  David is American, Marie is French but lives in Toronto.  They heard about this place at her church and will stay two weeks.

Hung the curtains on the fourth floor of our project house this morning and sewed like mad all day.  Have about half of the remaining ones finished and half underway, so think we're going to make it.  David helped the guys and they may leave him a few unfinished odds and ends, like clothes hooks.

Just the beginning; there are twenty

The guys are moving along.  They have completed the banister for one set of stairs, and all the made from scratch curtain rods are up.  Think they'll finish the landing tomorrow.  They took an afternoon break to walk up to Starchiodj and actually found the bolts they needed. Charlie got back in time to provide some help to several girls with their math homework and to do a magic trick for one of the local boys.

I walked to the village when my eyes started  crossing from the sewing. Then came back for one more hem before dinner.  Afterwards I personally dumped the leftover cabbage slaw that keeps coming back at each meal.  It's time the pigs get a crack at it.  Our turn to sweep and mop, but the pressure was on to get it done quickly because Marian was having a movie night with his computer projected on the wall.  Hard to do it quickly when the washing machine was still backing up the kitchen drain and leaving a half inch of water.  Someone said this is the only washer in the whole community, but that would be impossible for over 120 people.  Even if it is running all day. They are pretty clean for the most part.

Everyone seemed particularly tired tonight but we sat through "We Are the Millers" which I advise you to miss.  Most of us only stayed so as not to offend Marian.  So we're down to the wire.  Will we have enough healthy bodies to finish our projects tomorrow? Stay tuned.
